The action was fine, a little too cartoonish, but the characters were so shallow and uninteresting and the story was so ridiculous. I tried to like it, I tried to defend it at first. And then, the more I thought about it, the worse and worse it got.

This was a huge mistake on your part if this is what you were paying money to see.
This movie was always about kicking back for some popcorn entertainment and giant robots fighting alien monsters, not an Oscar worthy performance. Why else do you think this movie's main criticism was unecessary and too much character development when the the movie hit a lull right in the middle of it?

So you went to a movie with giant mechanical monsters fighting interstellar creatures and bitch that the acting is shallow.
