So after getting it wrong in the first place, they decided to correct their mistake and get it right. Why is this a bad thing? A judge can't make guarantees or promises anyway. He must have a shitty lawyer if he relied on a judge. This case was too public for a judge to promise a light sentence. This whole fricking thing is bogus. I'm just glad he never got off with a slap on the wrist, despite if a judge did or did not make a promise.
If I killed someone in a foreign country and the judge, prosecutor, and my attorney agreed on a deal for a light sentence in exchange for my guilty plea, and then after I'd plead guilty the judge said, "Nope, now that you've plead guilty I get to put you in prison and throw away the key." I'd lose all faith in that legal system and I'd take the first opportunity to get out of that country.
That being said, Polanski is a rapist and should've done real time.

i see where you are coming from. its a fricked up situation all around. if anything he would have gotten an appeal based on that, but then would have gone in front of a jury then.
either way, he was going to run.

If I assume the judge did in fact promise this light sentence, I get that the judge and the prosecutor made a mistake. But it's not a get out of jail free card. It's the lesser of two evils IMO to retract that joke of a promised sentence, if in fact that info is true.

He is who he is. Hollywood and the rest of the world knows what he did but he gets a pass because he is, to be honest, an awesome director. Did he molest a child? Well based on statements and evidence he did.
There is no room for spinning here. He is a rapist. Models that have come out after this happened say the same thing. He is, no matter what skill he has, a man that has raped children. We should not forgive this because he makes great movies.
