They care about having yet another large scale tournament that will help generate buzz that they can then write stories about, sell ads in, etc.
I am NOT advocating this AT ALL...but the ONLY way to have a legit, unbiased playoff system would be to scrap polling altogether, set up a system similar to the NFL in which conferences act like divisions and teams have to win their way in. Anything short of a well defined mathematical system is simply Olympic figure skating judging in different clothes.

Sometimes the top 2-8 teams might just be all in the same division. Why should we reward those who crushed their way through weak competition to get to the post season? I say we scrap the bias altogether and just move into straight computer polls. If you can't prove your system is completely free from bias (release the fricking formula Sagarin), it doesn't belong in any postseason determination. Then take a 6-8 team playoff from that and be done with it.

Well said. The media is back in control of CFB and they do not want to let that go.
