Then walk next time. Think of it almost like an auction- sometimes a stellar deal, and sometimes you pay a big premium to get something that everyone wants. If you hop on eBay and spend $80 on something you don't want you don't blame ebay. But it's cool to have that marketplace for when you NEED something, or when there's a value to be had and suppliers willing to compete

Yeah I think that with huge masses of people trying to get a ride, Uber is free to charge what they want. High bidder gets the ride. At some point, this will knock down demand and thus prices will drop... or there will be more drivers which will increase supply.

My question: are Uber drivers paid based on a commission structure where they get more money at surge pricing time? Or is it just an hourly rate model? It would make sense that they would make more to encourage more drivers.
