About 15 years ago, an old woman and her son were living in our old farm house at my farm and it burned to the ground the day before Christmas.

My pow pow said let it burn and let the insurance handle it, yet he and many other people helped them out greatly to restore their Christmas somewhat.

A little while down the road, it came out that they were cooking/selling/using meth and it burned down as a result of that

We kept the slab and built a shop over it.

Our place in avoyelles has a cotton gin from the early 1900s on it and there are the pilings in the lake from a a bridge that was installed in the late 1800s Still a few sinker cypress logs on the bottom from an old sawmill that was on the lake at the turn of that century. The old timers around claim that Al Capone and some of his group used it as a hideout for a few weeks one time when things were hot in both Chicago and his normal get away in FL. Saw a show about him on history channel several years ago and they mentioned that there were rumors of him hiding out in central LA on at least one occasion but that they could not confirm those.
Also has an old tram line that passes through it. When senator Hawkins used to own the place years and years ago, they had fresh bread and other groceries delivered to them daily.
