It was interesting, before Rome was Christianized. It seemed the Romans just wanted the weird new Christian to shut up, and they demanded martyrdom. You're not wrong about that. But those Christians would be considered freaks and radicals by most Christians today.

Most Christians, at least those in the west, don't measure up to the standard of belief described in the New Testament. Many are merely cultural Christians, and many of those who genuinely believe take their faith only as seriously as social norms allow.

If biblical Christianity is the complete, 100% truth, the vast majority of "Christians" will be surprisingly cast out on judgement day. At least I'll be able to say "my bad" and escort myself downstairs
