They have more cell towers and maintain their towers far more than AT&T does.

By default.....because AT&T was the first to sell off all its towers to Crown, American Tower, and SBA. Verizon probably owns less than a thousand towers now. Most wireless providers have exited the tower business. It's all about the back haul to the towers. Look at which company has spent the most on wireless infrastructure. It isn't even close. Nice attempt though.

AT&T is better in the country, Verizon in the city.

This was true several years ago, but Verizon is better in most places that I've tested them (in Louisiana at least). The coverage expanded when they began buying smaller providers like ALLTEL.

I have had 2 phones for several years (work/personal). For a large portion of that time I had a Verizon phone and an AT&T phone. Verizon was almost always better in both the country and city.

I've had iphones on AT&T, Sprint, and now Verizon. I'll never use anyone but Verizon again. I travel all over Alabama and down into Florida a few times a year. There were times when I didn't have coverage at all with AT&T. I've never been without decent coverage with Verizon.

And back before the smartphone craze took off, I was on Sprint. People I worked with had company issued Cingular/AT&T phones and blackberries, and had to use my cell to call people. It was awful how bad the service was, even in decent sized towns that supposedly had AT&T coverage, according to the maps.

What finally sold me on it was being at an Alabama game with my dad, and just at the tailgate mid-afternoon for a night game, not in the stadium ye, trying to send a text out to my wife. It tried to send 3 times on Sprint. I finally just borrowed his phone to call her.

Also, it's a big deal to people that use their phones for work to be able to talk and use the internet at the same time. In 2014 you still can't do that with Verizon. That's crazy.

That's not entirely true. Can talk and use internet at same time over LTE on Verizon with pretty much any android phone, and some phones like the HTC Thunderbolt, Galaxy S3 support SVDO over 3G.
