I have zero issue with talented people giving their take on a character, and the Joker isn't a sacred cow - the character is ripe for interpretation. However, Leto's Joker looks like the product of what guys in a boardroom think is edgy or fresh.

We hadn't seen the Joker with a plastic surgery smile and as the killer of Batman's parents prior to Nicholson. We hadn't seen a facially scarred and facepainted Joker prior to Ledger.

Well, in the film's defense, name a Joker before Ledger that had a Glasgow smile and look like he hadn't bathed in years?
