Don't care about Harris getting "meaningful" snaps anymore (LONG)

I've come to the thought that it does not matter if Harris play at all the rest of the year. If Harris is supposed to be great, why does it really matter if he plays again this year?

I want to win, and right now, the guy that doesn't turn it over (one turnover outside of the NMST game), knows the offense, and doesn't get confused on which way to run, is the best bet at winning.

The team is improving. Thomas was back playing at DT last night, Adams started for the first time, Beckwith makes the run defense better (9 tackles against a passing team, 3 solo, 1.0 for loss). Bain is clogging the running lanes. Jefferson and Martin are looking better in support roles. We are seeing the defense make strides because of the right personnel, and guys like Hunter and Rasco, coming into their own. Magee has come alive these last two games. The Magee we thought we'd see from the beginning. Even Melvin Jones is coming into his own at FB. Coaches are playing the hot hand and using mostly two RBs. This team can win football games.

frick tanking a season so Harris can get "meaningful snaps" I'm through with that shite. There have been a ton of guys, as recently as the last three years, who have exploded as redshirt freshman.

Here are some from several conferences over the past several years who had 3000 total yards and 20+ TDs as redshirt freshman.

Aaron Murray
Corey Robinson
Jameis Winston
Johnny Manziel
Marcus Mariota
Kellen Moore
Landry Jones
Colt McCoy
Sam Bradford
Brett Hundley

And there are more RS freshman who came up just shy of 3000 yards or just shy of 20 TDs in those years, like Kolton Browning, Brett Smith, Andrew Luck, Colin Kaepernick, etc. Thats not adding guys this year like JT Barrett or Anu Solomon, who both will be over 3500 total yards and 30 TDs this year. There are a shite ton of true sophomores who had as much, or less snaps than Harris as true freshman, that have thrived in there second years also. All conferences, all playbooks, all types of offenses. It doesn't matter.

If he is supposed to be the dynamo that we all think he will become, then should it matter if he gets anymore meaningful snaps this year? I do expect him to play more this year in some capacity, but IMO it is no longer necessary, because I don't want to tank this season just so he can gain experience.

He'll have at least Quinn, Dupre, Diarse, Spears, Upchurch, and Chark next year at WR (3 with a year worth of experience). Fournette and Williams, Guice, and Ducre at RB (2 with a year worth of experience). Don't laugh, but Jeter, Smith, Washington at TE also (2 with a year of experience). Don't forget Melvin Jones and FB too. The guy will be loaded on offense with talent, and loaded with guys to throw to. He should know the offense fully by next fall, and be ready to take charge.

One final thing, don't give me the Lee/JJ debate. They weren't much better than each other even as seniors, and neither had a QB coach. Miles/Cam will play the guy that gives him the best chance to win. Don't give me Mett debate either as he was a fourth year junior who only had 12 passing TDs all of 2012. For reference,

2012 first 8 games redshirt junior
Mett 112/200 (56%) 1419 yards (7.1 ypa) 7 TDs 4 ints

2014 first 8 games true sophomore
Jennings 64/128 (50%) 1048 yards (8.2 ypa) 7 TDs 3 ints

most people that want to see Harris this year are just afraid that if he doesn't, Miles will not ever make the change

they are scared of the JJ/JL situation happening again

I strongly believe that Harris will be starting next year

He needs meaningful snaps.

Mett's coming out game was vs Alabama in 2012. If Jennings plays like that vs Bama, I'll have faith in him.

I agree with this completely, but we may need more than what Jennings can provide against Ole Miss and Bama. Good thing is Harris has been excellent in those situations coming off of the bench this year. I think we'll be ok.

Next year Harris will be the starter.

This "meaningful snaps" talk for Harris is just asinine. Jennings has been selected by the coaches as the starting QB and he's only a sophomore. He still needs as many meaningful snaps as possible. He's not a JR/SR, that's been in the system for 3-4 years, that can afford to skip out on a few in-game reps.

I agree for the most part, but Harris shouls have had more meaningful snaps last night. He is obviously the QB of the future, and he should have come in last night once we put the game away and made a good 10 throws at least.

Jennings continually makes the same mistakes through 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 games this season, all of the offseason, Iowa bowl game and 1/4 of the Arkansas game (in which he was stellar FWIW).

Cam going to bat for him is expected in CC's post game interview, but someone needs to explain to me how he is "improving" as I'm not seeing it.

We cannot beat Ole Miss or Bama with Jennings. We know Jennings will start against Ole Miss but we need to bring in Harris when we are down by 14 or less. But I suspect it will be 21-0 or 24-3 before Les pulls him and by then it will be too late.

Hunter has been a beast all year and has been our best defensive player all year.

This is the system more than the players on the field IMO.

I'm sorry but Jennings looked bad last night as well, having a "game manager" is saying u don't have a QB.... Harris should start and play...Jennings will prob look just as bad as Harris did vs auburn against ole miss and Bama ....but Harris has the talent. He needs to play and play a ton. I think we do better vs ole miss and Bama than we did vs auburn but the problem will still be there at QB. Weaknesses really stick out vs quality teams....this you will see soon. (As if we haven't already )

Playing Jennings gives you limited offense. Last week, Miles said he couldn't find an opportunity to play Harris, last night he could have played Harris much earlier than the 4th quater. Miles constantly says we play the players that give us the best chance to win, he has never followed his own advice. If you think Jennings gives us the best chance to beat both Ole Miss and Alabama, you have the Les Miles glasses on. Everyone around me in the stadium last night were talking about Jennings inadequacies.

As so many have said, Harris will start next year, I think he needs to play in every game to build his confidence. I personally think Jennings is the starter and will continue to be the starter in the foreseeable future.

No offense, but I stopped right here.

He needs meaningful snaps. How do we know? We've seen him play without meaningful snaps.
