It's difficult for me to imagine not crying at my mother's funeral. I'm assuming you just grew up in a family where showing emotion was taboo?
Actually, not at all. I've seen my dad cry a number of times, especially when discussing Vietnam. My mom used to cry at the drop of a pen. My oldest brother is also not ashamed of showing his emotions to others. I think it is just the way I am wired. It was not difficult to not cry at my mom's funeral because I had already dealt with it emotionally in private. I was also in charge of everything at the funeral and after party and had to deliver the eulogy. Each of my brothers were sobbing at the funeral.
My friends joke that I have no emotions, but it is probably a huge wall I have erected to prevent myself from ever revealing something so personal to another human. I have lost both grandparents that were still alive when I was born as well as a great aunt that lived with us for 3 years. I did not cry for any of their deaths. My mom's death is the only one that moved me to cry.
So I asked this question to see if I was abnormal.
