I worked at blockbuster for many years after high school.

One of favorite childhood memories:getting out of school on Friday afternoon and mom or dad taking me to go rent a Nintendo game or a tape.

yeap the good ole days of hoping that all the new releases hadn't been gobbled up before you got there

Good memories as a kid there.

Dude I'm with you
On a Friday afternoon I couldn't ride my bike fast enough down there to rent 1-2 Nintendo games. It was a glorious weekend.

I find it kind of crazy that video stores actually still exist.
Friendly Video has to be a money laundering front or something.

We've just gotten away from seeking out DVDs as movies are released. Maybe if we still had kids in the house.

Hated those late fees, but they saved me a lot of $$$ being able to test out games that turned out to be crappy or finish short games.

The rise and fall of an empire.
It was awesome just wandering around a Blockbuster looking at all the movies and video games.

Definitely a cornerstone of my childhood. Spent many a weekend picking up games to rent (miss this the most now that rentals have essentially died out). And many a movie night making out on the couch with one of my three new releases playing in the background.
It's ironic to me they came in and snuffed out some local rental shops, but the ones that found that niche (like indy films) are still thriving today.

And in 29 years, Blockbuster has been made completely obsolete. It's hard to believe how things change so relatively quick.

I remember in grad school when I outgrew the going out every weekend phase, I enjoyed going to Blockbuster and renting a bunch of old movies on a Friday or Saturday night, especially on a weekend where it was cold or rainy.
They're now an example of what happens to a corporation when they don't evolve their business model.

Getting home from work, wife already picked up the pizza, and she's got a big smile because she got the movies she wanted from Blockbuster.
