I don't particularly like the idea of a government worker coming to my home to decide whether we are fit to homeschool our kids.

There are pros and cons to homeschool, but most of the parent homeschoolers I know are at least as, and in many cases more qualified than most of the teachers that I had

There is a common assumption that when a child is home schooled that the child's parents are the only people doing the teaching. While this may be true in the case of homeschooling in a remote, or rural area, in the suburban setting I see a lot of homeschooling groups where a more qualified person is found to teach a particular subject, calculus for example.

FWIW, I haven't seen any "disasters" from homeschooling. I have seen products of homeschooling who are far behind their peers, but typically parents who are willing to put in the effort for homeschooling are at least attentive, which is probably (and sadly) better than average.

Parental involvement is a major factor in the success of a child in any type of school. If the parents were not willing to put forth the necessary effort in homeschooling, it is unlikely they would have been any more involved if their child was in a traditional school, and the outcome would have been similar.

Thanks for the logical posts

Lot of them in this thread, actually.

All I can say is, I was homeschooled K-12, got into A&M just fine, and got out with a degree. Played sports and got plenty of social interaction while homeschooled. In fact, most folks are shocked that my siblings and I were homeschooled if they didn't know us before college

It's not the answer for everyone, but I feel like it was great for me, personally.

Question about home schooling
I think socialization 1) overrated as a goal of education and 2) not accomplished any better through public than private educational means.

Did you mean indoctrination?
