Smart tv having trouble streaming netflix

Have a Vizio smart tv and every time we try to watch Netflix on it, it stops to load every 5 minutes or so. We can hook a computer up to the same TV and run it without any problems, so I don't think it is an Internet issue. Is there anything that can be done? TIA

There's your problem.

Vizio's apps suck. Maybe all smart tv apps suck, but I've only owned Vizios. I would recommend a Roku or Chromecast... or Apple TV if you have other Apple stuff.

(1) I assume the whole situation is wireless
(2) It is possible that your laptop has a better WiFi connection since it was designed to do your Netflixing
(3) What internet speeds are you rocking
I have more, but these will cover most of the questions everyone will ask

6 mb download. It is possible it has a better connection, i just don't know why they market smart tvs with apps if they don't work. Probably my own fault for assuming it would work.

For Netflix, this may be pushing the boundaries, and I would not be surprised if it buffered

i understand its not the best, but like i said, when i do it from the laptop from the same connection, there is no problems. also when i do it from my PS4 on a different TV, there is no problems either... not really sure upgrading my speed will give me much of a difference.

Laptops and PS4 are essentially made to handle the network different than your TV...

for crying out loud has no one told the OP to just get a $20 chromecast and all his problems are solved?

You get a free pizza party if you sell so many Chromecasts?

you got another $20 solution for being able to stream all college games in HD LIVE at tailgates?
the difference between 'dish or direct tv satellite rube goldberg setup' vs plugging in a HDMI stick to your TV is laughable.

You understand that your post is off topic and has nothing to do with the OP's issue?
Posted on 10/15/14 at 11:38 am to ellunchboxo
because plugging a chromecast into the tv and running netflix from there wouldn't solve it?

Got my gf a smart tv and it was having the same problems as you, they got a signal booster and it works perfectly now. I'm guessing they have a shitty WiFi receivers in the tv. So stronger signal fixed it for us

good god. lets spend $50+ on an ugly bandaid to an ugly problem rather than admit built-in tv wifi/apps shite is shite.

CAD how are you using a chromecast at a tailgate? LSU wifi? Do they have a guest network or are you a student/faculty member.

you'll need a cellephone with a dataplan or a friend running WiFi nearby already.
preferably verizen since they've pumped up the volume on data during gameday.
run the phone as a hotspot aka 'portable wifi access point'...there's tons of apps that do this.
login to chromecast using your phone's wifi hotspot SSID.

I see. I was hoping there was a way to do it that didn't require using the cellular device as a hotspot, because the trick was going to be suggested for a tailgate that isn't super tech savvy. Thanks anyway.

this is really super easy though. if they can download an app to their phone and login to a wifi network, they can do it.
what type of phone/carrier are they using?
they could stage a dry run at their house prior to saturday to get comfortable with the process.
its really pretty simple..just make sure someone at the tailgate has ESPN because you'll need your cable/satellite TV login info to get the watchESPN app to work.
bonus if they also subscribe to SEC network because that opens up the watchESPN app to all the SEC network broadcast games as well.
