quote:Yet another highly unfortunate statement by the Director of the CDC. In fact he has no idea as to specifically how the contamination occurred. None. Not a clue.
The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said a "breach of protocol" caused a health care worker at a Dallas hospital to preliminarily test positive for Ebola.
It is one more of a number of scientifically/medically inexplicable statements the man has made.
The Director of the CDC publicly said the chance of Ebola here was remote.
The Director of the CDC publicly stated there was no need for US personnel to screen West African arrivals.
The Director of the CDC publicly stated the risk for US was greater if we screened/monitored/restricted West African arrivals.
The Director of the CDC publicly downplayed any risk to our troops being sent to Liberia.
The Director of the CDC has not acquitted himself well.

quote:WAIT!
We're talking about LPNs here, not RNs. RNs are, for the most part, very good at what they do. RNs also hold a low opinion of LPNs.
I don't know whether this nurse was an RN or not
You are under the impression an LPN would have been constantly administering care to Duncan in this situation?
Really?

Logistically, it's unlikely that there wasn't some LPN involvement. I genuinely do not know what this nurse was, however.

quote:In the case of an ICU patient, multiple infusions/lines, likely ventilated, in limited access/isolation protocol? It is virtually incomprehensible an LPN would have been in that room.

quote:So let's put a face to the screed.
It's tough to tell the difference between the person cleaning bedpans and the person who serves me KFC sometimes.
I won't post a picture and resume' of a KFC worker for comparison, but meet Nina Pham, the 26y/o TCU grad and Dallas Critical Care RN who contracted Ebola while caring for Duncan.
quote:
DALLAS – The Texas nurse who contracted Ebola while caring for the first person to die of the virus in the U.S. has been identified as 26-year-old Nina Pham.
Health officials have not released the nurse’s name, but Yahoo News identified Pham through public records and a state nursing database.
Then on Monday, Pham’s family confirmed her identity to USA Today, the publication reported. Pham, a critical care nurse at Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas, is one of at least 50 people who cared for Thomas Eric Duncan, who died last Wednesday.
Pham has been in isolation since late Friday. The CDC confirmed her Ebola diagnosis on Sunday. It is the first time the deadly virus has ever been transmitted in the United States.
The Dallas resident is a 2010 graduate of Texas Christian University and has been a nurse since June 2010, according to state records.
