I have a work 401k through Fidelity so I decided to open up an individual account in order to have everything in 1 place. I have a few thousand $$$ ready to jump into the market and I will likely just in on some of these oil companies, specifically COP. Do dividends automatically re-invest or are they added as cash in the portfolio? I have no clue as I've never owned individual stocks.

The term reinvestment by definition should mean that the div. goes straight toward new shares, but I don't know anything about Fidelity. It might not work that way? It's best to call. Anyone else know??
I like COP
Are you going to wait a bit longer?

Fidelity allows DRIP. You can elect to automatically reinvest.

With Scottrade, there's what's called "Flexible Reinvestment" where you can take your dividends and allocate them to whatever stocks you want, or you can just get cash directly deposited into your account if you don't use the "FRIP".
