I think Miles was trying to show confidence in Harris letting him battle through it. Just like the JJ/JL debates, I'm not sure there is a clear right answer.

Oh I completely agree. Although I do think we should have had a clear plan to give Jennings every third series or so just in case this happened. If Harris is playing lights out the first two series, then maybe you tell Jennings he'll have to wait because you're sticking with the hot hand, but if he's struggling it's perfect for Jennings to come in as planned just to give Harris a drive to talk with the coaches and collect himself.

I wasn't critical of Miles keeping Harris in, but the decision to start him in the first place.

It was asking for trouble in a game like we knew Auburn was going to be, and now we're in a spot where we've possibly benched both as starters. Very tenuous situation imo and one that could have been avoided by starting Jennings, even if just for the first two drives and telling the team Harris is coming in for the third and fourth drives.

Just throwing him in as the clear #1 because he lit up New Mexico State was something I'd only expect from the Rantards on this board.

I love him, but Miles folded and he shouldn't have.

This was just like Saban giving Russell his first start at The Swamp which turned into a disaster because he was ready just because we got embarrassed by a Georgia team that was simply better than us in 2004.

It was an overreaction in 2004, and it was an o
overreaction last week.

Are you sure you rewatched this game?

"Then again, LSU's coaches made it immediately clear on Saturday that this would not be their most ambitious game plan. Auburn's staff might have expected LSU to open up its offense more after Harris' dazzling performance against NMSU, but by the end of the first quarter, LSU had run the ball 12 times and attempted just two passes (Harris was 1-for-2 with a 52-yard completion to Malachi Dupre that set up a touchdown) and trailed 17-7.

The run-pass split was 17 runs versus two passes -- and the Tigers trailed 24-7 -- by the time they ran more pass plays than runs in a series."

Yes Harris had a couple of miscues on those first 2 drives, why not give him a chance to redeem himself on third and short? Coaches may have had enough faith in him to start him, but once he was in it was not until the game was already over and Auburn knew LSU would be playing catch up the rest of the way until harris started throwing. So yeah, after rewatching that massacr, it becomes a lot easier to say an 18 year old trying to press when his team is down 17 points is playing like...an 18 year trying to press when his team is down 17 points.

If Jennings starts this week and plays more than 50% of the snaps LSU loses. being nervous in your first start is one thing. 3 TOs to a team ranked 119 in 1 quarter is another. I will put $50 on it. You can PM me for paypal.
