Starting salary at these positions is $12 or 13/ hour. They aren't going to hire a PhD for those positions because they know he won't last long there.

Be suprised at how many Valet and waiters at high end places have degrees. Myself included at the time. I started taking phone calls for reservations just to have a job when I moved. I got promoted many times in a pretty quick manner too.
