2nd time watching the Auburn game

After watching the game for a second time some of my original opinions have changed. I felt like major changes in the offense were a must but now I am not so sure. Brandon Harris missed multiple wide open receivers which probably discouraged the play caller (not sure if the play caller is Les or Cam) from taking chances on third down. The offense looked excellent on first down, they just had multiple bad second down plays. The worst thing I saw from the coaching staff all night was how they handled the clock management before half time, and as most fans know time management is something Les has struggled with in the past. If they are able to get Harris under control and be more consistent on early downs then this team will look better in no time. I understand the uproar from the fan base but lets not run Les out of town just yet, after all he has proven he can win at LSU.

Lost me here. They could have Peyton Manning at QB and they wouldn't take many chances...well, ever

When Les said execution was a problem at the press conference, some said he was throwing the kids under the bus. But you're spot on. The O-line made opportunities for Harris, but he got spooked out of the pocket. The run game was good for 7-8 on first down early on, but we couldn't convert for 2-3 yards on the succeeding two plays. Receivers were constantly open but not seen or thrown high, uncatchable balls. I understand criticisms of our offensive system, but my biggest gripe isn't the scheme that we run; it's that we don't run it well.
ETA: Make no mistake, the lack of preparation and poor execution are still on the coaches, but the players have to step it up as well. It's one of the main reasons I don't understand all of the love for Cam. Whether it's his offense or Les' (it's his, btw) he and the offensive position coaches are responsible for making it run well.

You watched that crap again? If there isn't already one, someone should start MA (masochists anonymous) for poor souls like you

Why would you do that to yourself?

I agree. Both QB's have shown signs of great ability, but they both need time to build the composure that it takes to win on the road in the SEC.

Completely agree.

How does the OL look second time around?

Without a doubt, the coaches were at a disadvantage with play calling with Harris being so off.
However, that doesn't explain running Magee on 3rd and 7 for the 1st series of the game (when they had no idea Harris was off). It doesn't explain putting Fournette in finally during 4th series (where we immediately got our first 1st down of the game on his first carry). And I don't care how off the QB is, a 3rd and 15 QB draw ain't getting it done.

Exactly.
Shitting down his leg on the first two 2nd downs of the game didn't help either.
The play calling was always going to be conservative. Harris' shitty play forced us to be even more conservative.
And we'll be very conservative against Florida on Saturday. But we can probably afford it this weekend, because their offense probably isn't capable of running away from us on the scoreboard.

Its not the game plan, its young guys at important spots. But there is no hope for this defense, we would have lost either way.

Also gotta remember that because we converted ZERO third downs, we didn't run a ton of plays to get that deep into our playbook (not like I'm expecting there to be a "secret playbook or anything, if there is we've been waiting for it since the week of the '09 Florida Game)
When we don't have a ton of plays and Harris isn't making the throws it shrinks down what you can do. When your QB gets into a rhythm then you can give him more plays to run.
Just a consideration, I think no matter what there's no excuse for only have 3 passes thrown by the 2nd qtr when we're down 24-7, but if we wanna see more out of the playbook the offense has to stay on the field. Cam showed last year that there are a few wrinkles he's added that weren't there previously under Miles (just where the hell is D. Smith or the TE passing game a la pitta or Antonio gates?!?)

What about the limp wristed D? They are sorry.

The defense gave up big plays early and often. The thing that killed us were missed tackles and not getting off of blocks. The d line has no push whatsoever, the linebackers missed plenty of tackles that should have been at the line of scrimmage or short gains but instead went for more yards. Out dbs had good coverage for the most part but auburns bigger bodied receivers just made great plays.

Yes he did, but the play calling didn't help him. We were 2nd and less than 4yds 5 or 6 times and they ran into an 8 or 9 man fronts. These were the perfect times to get your young QB some confidence.
Our offense did what it was supposed to do, gain 5-8 yds on first down. This is why play action works so well, which we never used. Sorry but I blame 90% of the loss on the coaches. It would have taken an NFL o-line to gain positive yards running into 8 and 9 man fronts.

One of the issues LSU has with its QB is the inability of the QB to change the play at the line of scrimmage without instruction from the sideline. Too often LSU gets stuck in a bad play, or runs the play clock down to zero, or very close. This results in unnecessary timeouts, penalties and time management issues at the end of halves. It goes with having inexperienced QBs.

All we need is a big DT and a little time for the young guys to get a feel of the game and we will be competitive - right now we are not.
I think a big DE might be good too - 290lbs or so.
240 just doesn't move much in the SEC. Make Hunter a LB

Good post OP, I agree. Although the defense I alarmingly bad for the second straight year.
