Card-carrying negatiger, but bear with me...

Only the most delusional LSU fan thought that we would be a serious contender this season. Most rational fans predicted a rebuilding year, with a number of losses, because of the youth and losses at key positions. A good number (not all negatigers) thought we were too highly ranked after the Wisconsin game.

The warning signs were there for Wisconsin. They had LSU beat but for key injuries to their D-line, and Gordon getting put on the shelf. Yes, we did change schemes to force them to pass, but that was only half the story. It's no accident that we were able to start moving the ball in the 3rd Quarter. We won, but barely.

Two "cupcakes." We actually looked good against SHS and really pounded them as we should have. ULM was another story. We won, and it was not really in doubt, but we had to work harder than we should have against an overmatched team. NMSU...again, we thrashed them, but good.

The issue is the two losses. LSU did not just lose...it got embarrassed in both games. Yes, MSU is the real deal, and Auburn may be as well, but even so...even a young team should not get its doors blown off like that, when it has the talent we supposedly have.

And THAT is what has many people so concerned. We have been completely outmatched in our losses. We have not competed...at all. We have not adjusted...at all. Same offense, same defense, no matter what the other team is doing. Getting another year under the belt of these players is not going do any good if the scheme remains the same. The SEC has figured it out.

End Rant.

What bothers me is there doesn't seems to be any improvement from game to game. After 4 games our QBs should be able to handle passing the ball and the defense should know their assignments.

Auburn went 0-8 in the SEC, then won the SEC the next year. They got their doors blown off a couple times that first year as well.

I don't disagree with much of your post. It's solid. But this:

simply isn't true.

See Saban's defending NC squad getting blown out by 30 to Georgia in 04 in his 5th year as an example. And that team wasn't nearly as young as this year.

The defending SEC Champ team in 02 was blown out by Auburn and Bama. Those were ugly ugly losses. Even the UT bowl game was pretty bad for a coach that is supposedly unbeatable with a month to prepare (last year's OU squad would beg to differ).

Hell, the 01 SEC Championship team itself had the most complete beatdown I've ever seen in Tiger Stadium against Spurrier and Grossman.

We aren't a good team right now. Bad teams get beat by good teams. Bad.

Unfortunately, the West is filled with good teams this year, Iincluding the two that "embarassed" us.

It likely won't be the last time it happens this year either.

The test is how the team responds and builds toward next year when the rest of the West is rebuilding.

We'll see then if the doomsdayers are right.

Players got to play better and coaches have to coach better.

Yup. And we basically also got embarrassed in our only decent win. However, we (me included) let Miles slide on that won bc our players played well enough to sneak out with the W and because Wisconsin was going to run away with the Big 10 and put up 40 on everyone.

I agree with OP. I had an argument over the weekend and said id rather go 9-3 or 10-2 every year and put up consistent performance than sputter to an 11-1 season.

We desperately need a new coach. Gus was able to take an auburn team that won 0 conference games the year before to a nc appearance with a db playing qb. Just imagine what he, or a coach like him, would do with the talent we have. I've been saying this for a while but now that the game has finally moved past him people agree, we have a mentally handicapped head coach

Look at many of our Wins. They are hard to watch and won only by pure luck at times. Yet, they are wins so most ignore how we looked and the plays we called. Then they are surprised this year. Most of us have been saying we have always looked like this we just don't have luck, talent and mediocre to terrible coaching on the other teams' side.

The losses suck, but should not have been totally unexpected (especially at AU). The blowouts have been surprising even with a young team. But the thing that pisses me off more than anything is that appears to be no desire to make any adjustments whatsoever from game to game.

Against Wisc. the run defense was shite. But instead of trying something new (pre-snap movement with the DL, Beckwith the full time starter at MLB), LSU has continued with the same game plan with the same results.

On offense it is clear to anyone watching expert and not, that LSU has looked better out of a more shotgun oriented, spread attack. Harris (who surprise surprise is not the savior) has almost exclusively played from this type of set in limited action. Taking that all into account, what does LSU do Sat.? Stick Harris under center where he is clearly uncomfortable.

This. I bleed purple/gold and I'm a season ticket holder for over 20 years. What bothers me more than anything is the way we play, the play calling, and the appearance of the lack of effort by the entire defense. The Miss State and Auburn game was absolutely pitiful.
