Alright, so i ended up purchasing a Hegel H160 the other day from my friend instead of the Quad Vena (which I really liked). Now I'm wondering what speakers to use with it? I have some old cambridge audio speakers that will do in the meantime, but would definitely like to upgrade those at some point.
Speakers will be placed on a desk, so bookshelf sized. under $2k, and used is fine if there is a specific model(s) i should keep an eye out for. Would those Kef ls50's posted above be a good match? I've heard great things about them based on their cost.
And finally, do you have any general rules or guidelines you follow when matching amps to speakers? Feel free to point me in the direction of an answer you may have already given in this thread. Thanks sir.
Hegel H160 specs:
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Power output: 150W + 150W into 8 Ohms, 250W + 250W into 4 ohms
Analog inputs: 1 balanced (XLR), 1 unbalanced (RCA), 1 home theatre (RCA)
Analog outputs: 1 fixed line level (RCA), 1 variable line level (RCA)
Digital inputs: 1 coaxial S/PDIF, 3 optical S/PDIF, 1 USB, 1 ethernet (RJ45)
Frequency response: 5Hz-100kHz
Signal-to-noise ratio: More than 100dB
Crosstalk: Less than -100dB
Distortion: Less than 0.005% @ 50W 8 Ohms 1kHz
Intermodulation: Less than 0.01% (19kHz + 20kHz)
Damping factor: More than 1000 (main power output stage)

I would give Zu Audio Omen bookshelf a chance. Call and talk to Gerrit - he is the founder and ofter answers the phone - and make sure they fit with what you are trying to achieve. They will be right at the upper end of your budget. Very high-end cabinetry in addition to sounding great, and you can in-home them for 60 days with a no questions asked return policy.
