And this. I honestly wonder if the student couldn't file a lawsuit based on a University employee using over the top physicality that's not permitted in his line of work.

He could and I wouldn't be surprised if he did but it won't go anywhere.

Coach will just say that he didn't know if the kid was armed and wasn't taking any chances. And, for legal issues, it may very well be in his job description to act as some sort of "last resort" on field security. That wouldn't be a shock, either.
