Ever since Ron cooper left, our defensive talent evaluation has sucked.
I'm tired of beating the players to death. The coaches? Garbage.
Gilmore was very productive in his what, 5 snaps? Play the guy more brick.
Beckwith is extremely productive, but chief needs three years to teach him how to line up in a 30 tech.
Cmon man!

Logan was the last great DT. Ego and Freak were good, not great.

They should not even be playing right now. Our starters now should have been backups this year.
This.

It's called the Les Miles Dog House, Dog Housing 4 and 5 star recruits is part of your coaches DNA. That is why he only wins 40% of his games against Top 5 SEC games and has gone to the Chic A Fila and Outback Bowls and is currently ranked #15 and loses to Miss St.

Jmo Logan was solid but wasn't on the same level as brockers and Nevis... Brockers is what made Logan.
Logan is a starter in the NFL. So I think he is plenty talented.

Mass exodus to the NFL is going to manifest itself most prominently in the trenches. This shouldn't surprise anyone. They're just not ready yet, it doesn't have to be anyone's fault.

Logan is very talented but his senior season he wasn't as disruptive as his junior year. Could be the #18 curse though.

Moffitt gave an interview where he characterized these guys as "Not fit enough to play a single series of SEC football."
This happens. Some guys can just be relatively big (and rather fat) and kick arse at the high school level...then fail at the college level until they rebuild their body comp.

Better check Logan's numbers in the NFL. No one made Logan at LSU but himself. And what a BS thing to say, especially when it is not true.

Watch Bain. He was getting stood up by NMSU OL and pushed off the ball. That tells you all you need to know.

Has to be coaching or willingness to work to improve.

how can you blame coaching when godchaux has taken in the same coaching and has grasped the playbook and got his technique down quicker?

Bingo.
It's talent evaluation. On the d-line, LSU has been rapidly declining. Look at the staff for blame.
They went to So. Fla. to get Bain and North Carolina to get Gilmore. When LSU goes that far away from home to recruit guys, they should not be huge busts. Are the coaches looking at enough game film? Are they making the multiple trips to see this kids play in person?
That said, Godchaux is a rarity. Louisiana isn't churning out great DT talent, and it's hard to consistently go elsewhere to find it. LSU needs a staff that is elite in finding DTs out of state to make up for the homegrown shortage.

There has been some excellent development at DL under Haley (of note Brockers and Logan).
But they are the exceptions. Per Mike Detillier, Freak never learned to use his hands properly. Ego made plays at times but seemed inconsistent.
Either we are doing a really poor job of elvauating talent (as are the recruiting services) or an even poorer job developing players (my suspicion).

Gilmore played better than 91 in limited action Saturday.

Gilmore looked good vs the run. Get him in the mix on early downs

sucks to see ole miss and miss st dominate on DLine while we are having 2 down years
And Ole Miss is doing it with guys who are just as young as ours.
