I actually really like the burbank/e. boyd intersection now. I have been through it every Friday since football started and people dont stop anymore. They continue on burbank like they should. Have had zero issues.

quote:No, not exclusively. Fourth street is 2-way, and has a center turn lane.
Downtown is a grid of one way, 2 lane streets.
quote:This doesn't preclude a narrow signal spacing provided that they are interconnected. It's actually fairly simple to coordinate the timings. It would be similar to a typical interstate interchange, where the main line gets cleared through the intersection, the minor streets then get a green indicator, and vehicles that turn left onto the main line sit at the red light.
This is four streets, all two way with three running parallel (and only one connecting through), one being 5 lane undivided, one being 2 lane divided, and two 2 lane undivided.
The only problem with interconnecting the signals is that they'd have to upgrade the controllers and run fiber, which isn't cheap.

No shite. It's center streets on the grid are two way...Florida and 4th...that doesn't change the light sequences, though because you don't have turning issues.

quote:That's why god made turn signals. Again, this is not an issue that would preclude such a close signal spacing. In the absence of turn lanes, the minor streets can have split phasing. That isn't ideal, but it's probably the only thing that would work. The traffic on Burbank would just have to sit a little while longer than if the minor streets did have turn lanes.

Crash on Burbank at E. Boyd near LSU
Where they took out the fricking traffic signal of course!

It's not right turn only any more. It's a traffic free for all.

I've seen more than one car pushed into the trees where the Sonic now is when the light was there.

Meh. It's fine as it is now...people just suck at driving.

There are wrecks there daily now. And there were wrecks there daily before they took the light out. As long as people ignore the signs or lights, there will continue to be wrecks there.

Smartest suggestion to date.
I live on Burbank. I suggested this as soon as the change was made. I have been emailing an idiot at DOTD for months.
I am one of the left turners from Boyd to Burbank as I live just past Jennifer Jean. I'm not willing to deal with the traffic on College or Lee to Burbank to get home. Hence, the left turn. Boyd is way better than dealing with the Lee/Highland and Lee/Burbank intersections.
They should take the signal out at Jennifer Jean and put it back at E. Boyd.

You are the problem. The current set up works fine, when people abide.

I am hardly the problem. I don't travel during rush hour.
I have had no problem turning left. I don't use E. Boyd when it is backed up from Burbank to Highland.
There's more of a problem at Highland when people ignore the NO LEFT TURN from E. Boyd.

What direction are you coming from that you have to take Boyd and turn left?
Could you not take one of the streets with a signal to turn left?

A little common sense would go along way to fixing the issues with traffic around here
The single digit IQ's don't help either. Can't fix stupid, and it's dammed hard to design around it. I truly believe there are many parallels between Louisiana's educational level and traffic woes. Add the poor design of most of Baton Rouge's infrastructure and more per capita 18 wheelers than anywhere else in the country and it's a recipe for traffic disaster. At least it keeps a boatload of shysters and their ad agencies employed.

From interstate.
Yeah, I could go further away from my condo just to turn left. But I won't. As I said before, I am not out and about during rush hour, so I am not causing traffic problems.

From college or Stanford?

in one of the first 3 or 4 Burbank/Boyd threads, we went over this same concept with her. she's entitled to turn left at Boyd, and that's all there is to it.

I think it's funny that a big reason for taking the light down in the first place was safety. They argued that people turning left onto burbank were causing collisions, so the solution was to eliminate left turns.
So they take out the light and implement right turn only.
Then, they TAKE AWAY the right turn only rule, but do not put the light back up. So now, we have no traffic enforcement at that intersection AND people going straight/taking lefts at an intersection with 5 lanes.

I'm sire IBM will solve this issue along with all other traffic woes we suffer here in Baton Rouge. As I'm sure there was an extensive bidding process and not a favor to pour money at a company that for some reason chose baton rouge.

Heard they're putting the signal back up. Idiots won't obey the signs.
