My BIL lives up there. The family and I went up for thanksgiving last year.

We did the parade and also went to see the floats the night before. Also saw the lion king on Broadway as well as the radio city music hall Christmas spectacular. Went to see the Statue of Liberty and the science museum as well.

Not sure what to tell you about the hotel. We just stayed at my BIL's place in Brooklyn.

Getting around on the subway was super easy via Google maps. It tells you what lines to get on and what stops to take. Also used uber for taxis, although that was only to and from the airport. We used the subway to get everywhere. I was scared due to after going years ago and trying the navigate the subway, but as I mentioned Google maps worked incredibly.

Yeah the guy that said it's hard to get cabs around Christmas....what?

I guess it may get busy around Rockafeller and the theater district but it's doable. I'm sure your family would enjoy coming after Christmas as well to avoid the crowds. I second a kid friendly broadway show and Bryant Park also has skating for free(or a rental if you don't have skates)
