They stick a long needle into your gums to numb you. Then they take a drill and remove the entire root from your tooth and then they put a concrete like substance in your tooth as backfill. Then they say oh by the way you need a crown now. That crown is where they get you because unless your OT rich they're going to get you for around $1,000 out of pocket. You then have a numb mouth for around 3-4 hours. Take the entire day off of work because your going to need it.

I'm terrified of anything at the dentist, but my root canal was easy and I went right back to work afterward. I felt no pain after, either. Again, I didn't have a molar, but you seem to be making a big deal out of being a tad uncomfortable because of the position your mouth is in when they're doing the work. The actual root canal part, where they clean out the root, is painless.

Being uncomfortable for 45 minutes is not a big deal to me...I felt nothing. Just listened to a movie on my phone and before I knew it, I was done.
