Clearly you are not familiar with Bayou Sam.

Confederacy of Dunces is the only book I've ever read more than once. I've read it twice.

I haven't posted on the Poli Talk board since June 2012, but he's somewhat of a regular there, on his way to being a humanities professor if he isn't one already. I seem to remember his focus being early modernism around the time of Hobbes or Locke or something like that, but I can't really remember exactly. But in any case, it would make sense for him to have a huge interest in Dante and Milton, which would be pretty atypical for most other people.

What? You just never stood out to me as a book reader. No need for you to get so angry
Posted on 9/21/14 at 5:20 pm to Walt OReilly
Paige is more of a fan fiction kind of person

For the Star Wars fans out there, check out George Lucas talking about the importance of Campbell's book ( LINK) to him: Where the Star Wars Myths came from.

Weird. I always figured that she was well-read in the self help genre.

Check out The Long Season by Jim Brosnan, if you haven't already (in that case, reread it). Hilarious account of the 1959 season by a run-of-the-mill Cincinnati relief pitcher.

I'm now in a historical reading phase.
Historical fiction? If so, plow through Patrick O'Brien's 20-book fiction series on the British Navy during the Napoleonic Wars, featuring Captain Jack Aubrey and his friend, naturalist Stephen Maturin. Perhaps you saw the movie adaptation of the first book in the series, Master and Commander, starring Russell Crowe.

It's not for everybody. I find myself laughing out loud to it, but the humor is definitely different.

I haven't given up on it just yet. But it's highly rated as one of the funniest books ever written
