Now Suzuki owns a bright red building a block away. It's actually smaller than the old Kanno by about 400 square feet.

"On the dining area it feels bigger," he said, "because I have a high ceiling."

Suzuki finally hung a sign on the side of his building. But it only has the restaurant's name.

"I don't put Japanese restaurant or anything on it," he said. "I don't want any walk-in customers."
