I am right in the wake of that, I have ash raining down all day from white ash to large pieces of burned bark and pine needles, we have a warning to be ready to evac if need be.

What sort of measures have been taken in the past to thin out the forests and cut fire-lanes to try and limit the amount of fuel available to these fires?

Thanks, ninthward & Rockford. I lived in the Bay Area for a while and spent quite a bit of leisure time around Lake Tahoe. I still have friends and family out there, including some in Carnelian Bay. Probably not threatened with evacuation at this point, but certainly too close for comfort.
