Hitting the under $100 price point with a fairly respectable tablet is big. I have the 1st generation Fire because I needed a test unit and it was on sale for $139. $99 for a much faster tablet with front and rear cameras is hard to beat. It is only 6 inches rather than 7, but if someone's looking for an entry level tablet it looks tough to beat. The Nexus 7 certainly is a better tablet, but it's $229.

That's a weird hijack, you'll probably have better luck starting a thread asking about it.

You're right - I was just looking at one earlier and this was the first thread I went into this AM.

Yeah I may finally upgrade my old kindle Fire for that price.

That kids edition looks pretty tempting, but I'm wondering how locked down is it? I'm planning on getting a 10" tablet at Christmas, mostly for my daughter who will be almost 3, but the wife and I will want to be able to use it for non-kid stuff also. Waiting to see what the Nexus line will release after the new Android OS is released.

As a parent with a Fire that I let the kids use, let me just tell you that once you let them use it, forget about you being able to use it while around them.
I find that the fire works great with apps but is lacking in the web browser. Freetime on the Fire is the bomb though!
For adult things, I prefer my iPad, which the kids are forbidden from using! Lol

I may get one of those readers, especially for outdoor use.

I've never felt that I would use a tablet enough to justify buying one. I usually just use my laptop. I can't justify buying a kids edition fire and a 10" tablet.
