This is going to sound pretty callous but here goes..

1- Dont get a rescue animal for a 4 year old girl. Chances are nothing will go wrong but they are in a rescue situation for some reason. Could have been abused or had issues that led to them being placed for rescue.

2- Dogs costs alot of money. The money you pay to get a dog is very small compared to the other expenses (Food, vet care and misc stuff) Get a quality bred dog.

We got a Golden when my daughter was 6. The dog was the best animal ever and was sweet as could be. We got her from someone who wanted there dog to have a litter of puppies. (Not a puppy mill just a regular family). The dog had health issues starting at 6 years of age. (Most genetic) She was a great dog but dealt with health issues the last 5 years of her life. It wasn't easy for us and expensive. The dog lived until she was 11.

We got another Golden but this time we spent $900 instead of $300 and got a very well bred dog. He is just as sweet. You can tell the difference physically between the two.

Yorkies are cool. If you live in the country be careful. Hawks take them off sometimes. Happened to a friend of mine.
