I would surmise then entire reason to not allow felons to own guns is because as a society, we feel they cannot be trusted (since they broke that societal trust, doing whatever it is they did to become a felon).

If we are going to allow felons to own guns in the home and vehicle, then we are saying "we trust that you, as a felon, will abide by the law and not use the gun outside of your home or vehicle"

At that point, either they will abide, making it a moot point to restrict where they can carry a firearm, or they will break the law and carry the gun with them outside of their home anyway.

ETA: Either let them own firearms straight up or not at all.

"society" doesn't have the power to limit anyone's rights through prior restraint. Do crime. Pay time. Done.

We trust them enough to let them back freely into society?
