LSU has missed on a lot of big recruits in the last few years at key positions. When you couple that with NFL attrition, you have a recipe for disaster.

One of the other inflaming issues is that we have missed on recruits that have ended up at competing schools. You not only loss their potential contribution - you have to face them as well.

I hate to even say it, but LSU has the feel of the late 1990-early 2000s UTenn. They were still recruiting at a high level but NFL attrition and competitors upping their game eventually took its toll.

I hope I am wrong about that though.

What an idiotic post. Our freshman class is the best recruiting class in LSU history.

This is 100% wrong with regards to the DL, or any position we aren't seeing great production from really. Our rivals have taken DBs, WRs, and one stud LT. None of those are glaring deficiencies on this team, with only LT looking to be an issue next year. We've signed the guys we wanted, they just haven't lived up to the hype. It happens to everyone, our let downs are just all occurring at one position group. The truly elite DT prospects just haven't been there the last couple years, 2016 will be a banner year.

He seems really slow off the ball and had a tendency to come off the ball too high.

I watched him some, too. I didn't really notice his speed off the ball, but I was expecting to see his level too high, because others had said that. I did not see it. He seemed to maintain good level, and he was very solid in maintaining his position and sometimes pushing into the backfield. I'm kind of hopeful after watching him against ULM.

1998: Won BCS.
2001: A game away from playing for the BCS Title, that game was of course against LSU in the SEC Championship.

Late 90s early 2000s decline right there...

Do the people that say "I hope I'm wrong" when saying something negative about the team actually hope that they are wrong? I see it pretty often and have to wonder.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was referring to the term lineman. As the post he was replying to referred to Pocic. So, I would think he means Cam Robinson? Though...maybe it's just the usual Saban paranoia, because that poster is usually pretty negative.

Such is that way of the rant. His post was wrong in just about every way possible according to the facts, but damn if it doesn't make a great talking point, because all casual fans know is 5 for 5. CRob was a legit miss if you want to include OL, but one player does not make a trend. Gerald Willis is the only big DL prospect we've missed on from LA in recent years, and he's played zero minutes for UF so far this season. Godchaux on the other hand chose us over offers from almost the entire SEC and is already making an impact.

And the one they did take ended up bringing the NCAA hound dogs on top of them

Ga and fl st have hurt us the most with DL recruiting. We finished second for several of the guys they landed. Also ms st and ole miss won a few battles too.

I would say LSU has made some bad decisions on some guys we've taken at DT. Mickey Johnson over ?? ( I forget his name) is one main example. We probably should have taken a junior college player at DT to fill in depth but haven't done so.

Pretty sure that's what this thread started out being about, but the TigerFanNKaty person brought up both sides of the ball, then TheDrunkenTigah brought up Pocic to which TigerFanNKaty replied with the Saban thing. So.........it all comes back to Saban?

I think Bain was the guy that the coaches said he needs to improve on is technique! The D- line needs to take a defensive type of karate, for balance footwork and hand usage!

The MS kids are a crap shoot, as Bama is well aware, and those east coast kids it's a testament to our recruiting that we even came that close. You really have to look hard to find a DL prospect inside our recruiting footprint that we weren't able to reel in. The guys on our line right now are the ones we went out and took from other schools, they just haven't lived up to the rankings yet. That's why I brought up OL too, both groups can be really hard to project and weak competition can make avg players look like studs.
