Why are asking about those two places? Ds has quite a few better places or hammond if you're just trying to stay out br

Which places would you suggest?
I grew up there and I am still amazed at how bad the restaurant scene is there. There are people who live there who make decent money, they are educated, and such. Why can't this area, or really any area considered a suburb of Baton Rouge, not have good restaurants?
I'm not even looking for a fancy place. Maybe something chef owned, with a somewhat creative menu, with an appetizer list that's not straight sysco, something with a salad other than ice burge lettuce, or some wine or beer that's a step up from what is on the shelf at the Walgreens?

I also grew up in denham springs and completely agree with you about lack of good restaurants. I think geisha, dons, la carretas, or big mikes would all be better. Maybe someone open something decent in Juban area. How old are you? Good chance I know you.

Los sombreros food is decent. The owner Tommy is great though. He's the reason we go back.

Los Sombreros is the best Mexican in the Denham and Walker area

I'd put Geisha up against a lot of the sushi in BR.
You said this is for a date. I'd take her here if you're staying in Denham.
If you insist on Mexican, I'd do La Carreta before Los Sombreros simply because Los Sombreros feels like a dinky strip mall joint, which is what it is.
Not that it's gross or anything, but it's far from date atmosphere.
Reminds me of the Casa Maria that was next door to Dollar Tree and Goodwill in BR.

I like LS, but I know the owner
He's a good guy.
We like to take the kids on Tuesdays for face painting

Taste of Louisiana in DS where the antique shops are, would make a great choice. Have been there quite a few times and always left full and happy. Small place but good food.
