I surely hope this is sarcasm and you aren't a police officer...
But the mentality above is the mantra of LEOs everywhere. There is an inherent risk with being a police officer. If you are unwilling to accept at least some risk of injury, as opposed to using the maximum amount of "authorized" force in every situation, then you really shouldn't be a police officer.

So because of that, it's not practical to disarm the person from a safe distance with a non lethal shot? A bean bag to the chest would have easily separated this person from their sword.
