Taxi or Uber to the game

Has anyone have experience with taking either of these two forms of transportation to a game? Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.

Uber is alittle more expensive then taxi, but I you can get your first ride for basically free. If you sign up for uber for the first time they will give you 30 dollar credit.

This is the most wrong statement in internet history
Use Uber. It is better and cheaper. No, it is way better, and far cheaper.
I just realized that I don't have the vocabulary to express how much cheaper and better Uber is.

I used Lyft to get to NRG Stadium from the Heights in Houston two weeks ago. Great experience and very easy, especially with the free ride code.

It's about the same price but yes its a far better service. But on gamedays Uber is probably more expensive due to surge pricing.
However, taking a cab on gameday probably isnt even worth trying to do.

Okay, I've recovered my sanity that was lost when I read Amish's post.
It normally cost me $75 to take a taxi from my office in Houston to the airport. It cost between $17 and $35 the two times I've used Uber.
To clarify, I used the cheapest Uber option, which is Uber X. The cars are cleaner, the driver is better and more professional, and it is waaaaay cheaper.
bbap, I just read your post. I assure you, as a frequent user of taxis and Uber, it is not close to the same price. Uber is about 60% of the cost of a taxi on average. Now, if you use Uber Black, or one of the other options, you could spend as much or even more than a taxi.

I've found the cabbies in BR to be cool and friendly. When I can find them!

uber black isnt available in BR. only uber x. it's about the same price. i promise you. it sounds like you dont even live in BR.

Uber uses surge pricing on gamedays. it was 2.5 x's the normal rate Saturday. I checked out of curiosity and it was $40 from house by Webb park to campus.

Uber is generally cheaper. Though during high volume times, like around game time, after the game, and when the bars close, they will charge you 1 1/2 times the normal rate. But unless a taxi is right in front of you, they are 10x more reliable than calling yellow cab.

I just read your post, and bbap is correct. Uber will have surging rates on gameday around campus. Depending on when it is used, Uber would potentially be much more expensive. However, I agree with whoever posted above that there is next to zero chance you can find a cab

Another point. When you open the Uber app and choose a pickup point (you don't have to enter an address; you can just accept the drop pin)the app shows the available uber cars nearby.
It also displays a time for your car to arrive (my last attempt showed three minutes). When you finalize the request it texts your driver's name and contact info. And it shows the car's progress on a map.
If there is any mixup, you can call him. You will necer get in a taxi again unless you have to.

no doubt. None of that is disputed. Uber is 1000 times better than a cab. Just saying it isnt significantly cheaper in BR. It's about the same. On gamedays its probably more expensive due to surge pricing, but I'd still use it over a cab.

This. Surge rate was x2.75 starting at 12am Friday night/Saturday this past week.
Worth it.

It's probably what killed my rating.

Usually cheaper and tip is built in, they do have some kind of flex rates that make it more expensive during events. A lot of drivers are ex taxi guys that work on their own and don't have to put up with the taxi system BS.

I can't say about surge pricing. It makes sense, though. However, you're not really comparing it to taxis anymore, because during surge times I just can't get taxis.
As far as it being the same price in Baton Rouge, I'm not familiar with that. But maybe it has something to do with what happened in New Orleans with Uber. The city finally relented, and let them operate in New Orleans, but only the more expensive versions of Uber. They didn't allow Uber X. That's the one that's way cheaper. Maybe BR did the same thing.

No. I've already told you Uber X is the only version of Uber in BR.

Stupid Penrod!
•LSU Campus to the Mall of Louisiana:
Uber $18
Taxi $22
Uber X is about 20% cheaper. But I'll accept that this is "about" the same price, which is what you said. Normally Uber is about 40% cheaper, but I guess not as much in BR.
