Yes.
First, make it less democratic in the way ingredients are chosen. It ends up being crazy amount of things to choose from with 30 different people voting. Maybe someone comes up with three ingredients, and a panel of three people choose the final ingredient. Or maybe that's not the best. All I know is it's a little overwhelming with people shouting out a whole bunch of stuff.
Secondly, most of us aren't René Redzepi and can't whip something up from crazy stuff. I like three common ingredients and maybe 1 not-so-common-but-still-not-off-the-wall ingredient. Something that pushes me, but also 4 ingredients that can be complimentary and cohesive in the final product.

I tend to agree with bottomlands ideas. Less voting on ingredients, more common ingredients with a single "interesting" twist.
