For a person her age, any medical procedure can carry these risks. One just hopes it was necessary and not elective; from what I've read, it was for her vocal cords, which is normally elective unless there is cancer.
None the less, a very sad ending to a very happy life that touched many with laughter. She's up on a list with Betty White in my book as long-timers. Maybe she'll do red carpet at Heaven's gate...

I don't see why. I'm sure she was advised of the risks of an elective surgery at the age of 81. I don't even think they do angioplasties at that age.

Couldn't be farther from the truth. I'm assuming there was a anesthesiologist or CRNA during the procedure. If anything, it would a review on that part of the procedure, not the doctor performing the procedure. Plus when you go under, you sign paperwork assuming risk for complications under anesthetics.
