Not sure where this took place but, for any LA folks thinking about this, you can only "Citizen's Arrest" for a felony. Here is some sage advice, if someone isn't getting killed by someone else, stay out of it and be a good witness. The ONLY time I would get involved, and it would have to be for someone who obviously isn't a scumbag, would be to stop someone who was straight killing them right then and there.

As someone said before, what could he have possibly stolen from a WALMART that was worth what just happened?

Having worked at a grocery store, we were told NOT to detain a shoplifter.

It's not a matter of legality but the store don't want you getting stabbed or kilt by a shoplifter and suing them for negligence.
