I'm surprised it's not listed yet, but the suspect's name has been released.
Derek Davis, 27, of 10812 Stanley Aubin Lane.
Derek Davis, 27, of 10812 Stanley Aubin Lane.
quote:
One neighbor, who declined to be identified, said he watched Davis complete about 15 minutes of sobriety tests outside of the white sedan he had been driving on Glendale Avenue. Davis was about to climb inside a police car when he suddenly took off running, the neighbor said.
The officer chased after Davis, and when the two ran about 15 yards away, they disappeared from the neighbor’s view behind a parked Ford Bronco, which is when the neighbor said he heard about three gunshots.

You do realize the media shows up a scenes due to radio traffic and citizen reports. It's not like the cops call the media and say "Hey, you guys need to get over here to cover this story."
That makes perfect sense then. Because there is never any radio traffic or citizen reports when a cop shoots someone. It's all coming together.

Cops may not be the smartest group, but they are bright enough to see how society reacts to a police shooting. I can't imagine any of them saying "I think I'm going to drag my name through the mud, be called a racist, risk my family's safety, and maybe go to prison. I'm going to shoot the first person that looks at me funny".

Didn't read the whole thread.
Was this altercation caught on camera?

And all you complainers are the first to call the police when you need help.
Given the typical response time if a person can't defend themselves the only thing the police will be doing is looking for your assailant. In my case since I have dogs that pretty much rules out calling the police.

The Advocate is reporting that Officer Matthew Jackson was the officer involved.
He's white, in case it matters.

Wait. So this means we protest and riot? Or not? I forget how the manufactured outrage goes. Can we get some self-proclaimed activist to fly in here, rile everyone up and then leave when this turns out to be justified?

quote:so sounds like a dash cam wont have the shooting on it. As I said this would be a cut and dry case if the cop had a camera on him

Cop was Asian
Curious... What made you say this last night. The cop was nowhere near Asian. The cop was white as vanilla ice cream.

I'm sure its protocol and the adrenaline is running.. But if I've pulled some dude over for DUI and I've got his liscence and vehicle. Why run after him solo? Seems like your putting yourself in a tough spot..

I don't believe they had gotten to that point yet.

It sounds a lot like the guy took off when the Officer tried to handcuff him to put him in the car.

The overwhelming majority of people would understand if there truly was a threat.
Oh please.
A majority of people here condemned a cop's actions when he killed a large breed dog who was in mid leap at him. It was clear he waited till the last possible second and he still got railed. And this was before the cop hate went into overdrive.
So anything with anything less cut and dried would okay out just as SPEEDY said.
I think they should release it, but I disagree it would have the effect you hope.

My only thought... Assuming the eye witness account is correct and that's a big if... This is why the video should be released especially since the shooting won't be present.. The eye witness probably was mistaken.. The officer probably asked him to turnaround and put his hands behind his back and he took off. If he was about to be put in the car, he should've been cuffed

Is this becoming more common or has it become the new lie?
Aren't most DUI's on video camera now?

It seems that's been taught to get a 'good shooting' that if you say victim is 'going for my gun'(George Zimmerman , cop in Ferguson, Cops in NJ who framed Jeter, another in L.A recently, Oscar Grant handcuffed but hands 'going for his waistband'',et ...........
Zimmerman has never been nor will he ever be a police officer.
