No one who lives in the Valley thinks of it as "Los Angeles", even though it's officially LA city limits. The various parts of the Valley were their own little towns for quite awhile before LA annexed the entire area, and to this day they still use those names.
As an example, non-Valley LA city zip codes are all in the 900xx format. Valley zip codes are 910xx.

I know the history, but it never seemed right with me when people said they were from Sherman Oaks/Woodland Hills/Encino/Van Nuys..etc...,California. Its very confusing...
