How in the world can you compare a 5th year senior with 6 starts and a lot of playing time outside of that to a player that started 1 game and had a few snaps outside of that?

so you're saying Saban handled the QB situation that year well?

Going with the older guy, at least to start, is not exactly something specific to Les Miles.

Well said. Worked out pretty well for A&M last night.

And was dreadful (Clausen actually started the Ole Miss game).

I would say the talent gap between Jennings and Harris is far less than the gap between Randall and Russell.

And the point the poster earlier made was that even after outplaying Randall in the games, Saban still wouldn't give Russell the starting job until a road game in the Swamp. Yikes.

A. You're a douche for trying to act like Les is doing something out of line or purely out of habit.
B. I like Harris over Jennings and I'd start Jennings

Yes he did for the situation, especially game one. However its certainly not an apples to apples comparison in any way to Harris and Jennings.

WTF?

So you are saying Saban made a bad decision because he couldn't read the tea leaves at the time?

And the experience gap was light years apart. Its just not the same situation and shouldn't be used as a basis of comparison. The Talent gap between Jennings and Harris is not as big and the experience gap is no where near as big..

I don't know why anyone outside the coaching staff and a handful of other can even have an opinion on them yet. Practices are closed.

Knowledge of the playbook, reading defenses, and the game slowing down for him? Absolutely. Arm strength? Probably not.

Jennings was always going to be your starter against Wisconsin. Zero surprise.

Is it just impossible to believe that just maybe Jennings improved from last year?

This, or the fact that maybe he is just good as well? Last year he was all the rage after coming in and securing the backup spot. A touted freshman comes in and suddenly he is garbage in the eyes of some.

Jennings may provide exactly what this offense needs. Ball security, enough throwing to be dangerous, and control. We obviously will do quite a bit of running, and hope the D is back to the standards we have come to expect.

I don't even know what I'm arguing anymore.

Except I do know that I wouldn't trust a true freshman at quarterback in the first game of the year against a top 15 opponent.

Brandon Harris would have to be head and shoulders better than Jennings to get more playing time in the first game. We aren't playing a rent-a-win. You have to go with Jennings because you know what you have. Harris was playing against 16 and 17 year olds this time last year. What if he is a turnover machine? What if the lights and cameras turn on and he forgets everything he's been coached and goes for the home run ball every pass?

Spot on.. I have been saying this since day 1.

I still say it will be Harris pretty soon. Nothing against Jennings, may the best QB win the job.

I can envision the Mile''s presser after a win with a sluggish offensive talking about how Harris never got in because the staff didn't think the conditions were right...basically another version of the same speech used to justify leaving JJ in even though we struggled to get first downs.

I sure hope not, but everyone should be ready in the event the offense can't get going, it will be an aggravating reminder of how these situations are handled
