Greatest prog album of all time?
Listen to this
This is one of my favorites but I also have to include Close to the Edge by Yes in my top 2 greatest prog albums list.

Is he the resident progman?
My expertise is in late 70s British prog, but I also dabble in some of the weirder stuff like Magma and Gong.

He's one of the biggest Genesis fans I know
He also does some quality cocaine, and I consider him a friend
But he knows his Genesis

Love the avatar.
Genesis + cocaine = dancing fool

If Dark Side of the Moon is considered prog it's up there. I love Thick as a Brick and then you have your Fragile from Yes. It's top 5 for sure though.
And honestly Trick of the Tail and Abacab are both pretty awesome Genesis albums too, especially without some of Gabriel's overindulgent bullshite he brought to the table sometimes.

I do fricking love Genesis though

Fair points, I agree with some of them. How do you feel about Foxtrot?

It's awesome in some parts and a little bit much for me in some others. Supper's Ready is pretty awesome.
I honestly just like post-Gabriel Genesis a lot better. I feel like Genesis with Gabriel has tons of awesome stuff, but you have to wade through a lot of excess to hear it.

What about 2112 ?
I was just jamming Tarkus the other day, that's a solid album. And Discipline by King Crimson is pretty great, it would make my top 5-10

Just listened to Supper's Ready a few minutes ago, I find it uplifting. I know what you mean though, Gabriel got caught up in the grandiosity of the movement at times.
I actually haven't delved into post-Gabriel Genesis very much, what albums do you recommend?

Trick of the Tail is still pretty Gabriel-y, but you can hear them kind of starting to change their sound. Abacab I think is the best combination of prog and pop Genesis ever did.
Any album after Duke is pretty shaky.

Danman, do you like of the album cuts on Invisible Touch or We Can't Dance? I love 'Domino' and 'Fading Lights'. And did you like the '99 remake of 'The Carpet Crawlers'?

I like both phases of Genesis.
People either love or hate Phil Collins (in my experience)
But I like his Genesis stuff. "Jesus he knows me" is poppy, but I like to party to it

Are any of those albums like the stuff Collins did with Brand X? I've listened to a lot of Brand X and I like the instrumental stuff, I imagine those other albums feature Collins on the mouth a lot?
Posted on 8/28/14 at 10:05 pm to Stonehog
Expect a lot of Collins on those albums...especially 90's Genesis. You might actually confuse them with Collins solo tracks
Posted on 8/28/14 at 10:05 pm to Stonehog
eh not really
I've only heard a little Brand X and it was pretty jazzy/progy. Those albums I listed are a lot more pop than that.
