To what, whiffing on tackles and getting smoked in coverage?

Stars are based on potential.

Doesn't mean he's gonna be a freshman all American. The dude has lived in Illinois all his life. It's not easy going from that weather to south Louisiana heat and humidity.

DJ Welter and Kendall Beckwith are above him, Beckwith was almost a 5 star and has is a soph, and Welter is a returning starter.

It's not all about athleticism or talent, knowing the defense is the most important factor, and that takes time.

My guess is by the end of the year, the depth chart will be Beckwith, Welter, Garrett

I was told him and Valentine would be contributing right off the bat

Thanks for an insightful analysis. You'll probably get hammered for it. I had very similar comments about Donnie Alexander except for the part about him developing into a good one. I'm a little worried about LB recruiting.

Earlier in the year he was having problems with heat exhaustion. He's adjusted but is now behind the learning curve b/c he missed a good bit of instruction in those practices.
Probably see him special teams early season.

I'm not necessarily right and I may very well be wrong. I was just expecting more that night. The kid definitely has some ability and he played hard and seemed like a good kid. I eventually think he'll be a contributor but I certainly didn't seem him stepping right in.

That's really the difference between a five and a four star. If he's starting in two years, and playing well, I'd consider him a success. Like someone else said, Beckwith still hasn't quite mastered the position. It takes a while.

People on here lately totally ignore or are completely ignorant to the difference between HS football and college and between a 18 year old and a 21 year old.

Again, so many Ranters want Les to field a freshman football team.

I expected more from Garrett; however, the last true freshman I remember to start at MLB for LSU was Trev Faulk...that was a bad year. Starting a true freshman at MLB is not ideal.

If anyone remembers a true freshman starting at MLB since then, please remind me because I'm at a loss.

According to this morning's DandyDon update, Miles is quoted as saying that Clifton Garrett has struggled with acclimating to the heat and is not ready to take the field

Well he plays all the way up in Illinois and just got here a couple months ago. By October/Early November, he'll be a beast on special teams and should get a good amount of play time.

Ben Wilkerson says Hello.

Btw it gets humid in Illinois. Was DD saying he was sick or just sidelined by cramps?

Exactly. Not sure why people think it's Siberia.
