Yeah no LTE does suck but it'll at least work. Here's a write up about the Verizon Note II on AT&T. The MAXX should also work.

I got you - GSM is actually the global standard - one of the attractions ( I was an AT&T subscriber for a while - just couldn't get service inside my house) of AT&T or T-mobile is that you can take the phone with you to Europe, pop in a prepaid sim card there and use your same phone. CDMA is the Qualcomm/Verizon/Sprint system. GSM is everything else, and most places internationally.
Oh, and since we've been talking about this, I found an Ask Maggie (from Cnet) article from just a couple of days ago that says you can take a Verizon iPhone 5s to AT&T, so many of us may have been spouting out old data. It is a chick, so take it FWIW...

Chicken, once your phones are "out of contract" you can upgrade to the 10gb plan and get $25 discount per line that is out of contract. Basically the same deal as AT&T. The problem is that not all Verizon employees are well versed on this. They try and tell you that you have to purchase an "Edge" phone to get the discount, which is not true. A directive was issued April 14 (I believe this is the correct date)of this year which says that "out of contract" or "bring your own phone" lines also get the discount.
I have found that you have to make them look for the directive with the date to make them admit it.
So, you can greatly decrease your bill and stay with Verizon as long as you don't upgrade your phones. Buy used from Craigslist

Have you looked at TMobile in your area? They're running a deal right now for $100, 10 GB, 4 phones

what type of phones?
I think CAD uses TMobile. Which if you can get service from TMobile, they offer some great deals.

This thread motivated me to do something. I just got through a heavy maze of resetting my billing password (whatever that is) - upgraded from 8gb to 10gb, and my bill with 3 off contract and 1 contract phone will be $215 starting in October.
Chicken, if you do the same thing, I suspect you will be down to about $170ish - if your phones are off contract.
$100 for 10gb, $15 each for the lines ($45), plus $25 or so for taxes/fees (you don't pay $8 or $9 per line for the equipment protection?)

Chappy, one of our three iphones was a hand-me down that is certainly out of contract...but the other two are 5s phones bought within last 12 months.
So, can you get the $25 discount for one of the phones?

this info is gold if true....
what should one ask the rep for?..."edge"?

I don't think so, Chicken - that's how they pay for the phone subsidy (people didn't really think $600 phones were free or only cost $200, right?)
But, with Edge you can make it work either way - pay for the phone and get the $25 (on a 10gb plan - which is the only way this works) - or pay 60% of the price of the phone and upgrade every 30 days if you want (of course, you have to turn the phone in if you haven't paid for it in full - you can't keep it.)

I don't think that's technically it - "Edge" would pick up with a new purchase - the 'early upgrade' path - and your cost is essentially the same, the $25 is offset by paying $20 to $25 for the phone.
However, they figured out they were screwing their existing customers so, rather than wait to make you upgrade the phone, they give existing customers with no contracts the $25 off to keep them from jumping ship to AT&T.
But "Edge" as a code word probably gets you there.
The keys to this are 10gb (versus 8gb or less) nets you $25 discount per $40 line. Put another way, even 2 lines is fairly cost effective, $100 for 10gb, and $15 x 2 would only be $130. I think that 4gb is $70, and $30 x 2 (8gb and less is only $10 discount per line) - would be $130.
Who would pay the same for 4gb as they would for 10gb?

I'm about ready to go prepaid, it's so serious (and prepaid has its own set of issues).
Take a look at PTel. It uses the T-Mobile network and has the best prepaid rates I've seen yet. I just bought two SIM cards to give it a try.

T-Mobile uses AT&T towers in my area - the reason I left in the first place was that I couldn't make or receive a call in my house with AT&T - I think I have it under control - I have this thread to thank for it. If I can get my bill to $50 for non-contract phones, and then just buy phones as I go - I can live with that.

PTBob, I second what SthGADawg posted. Who is that chick?
Anyone still on unlimited data with Verison? I have unlimited text, data and calls for $126 (tax included) per month.

I still have unlimited data, text and calls with verizon and I pay about $90/mo. This thread has me terrified about what my bill will look like if I get a new phone though.

I have gotten 4 new phones since they stopped offering unlimited. You just have to pay $600 each time which sucks. I refuse to lose unlimited data though.

Same rate. Do you think it's too high?
