Am I paying too much for Verizon cell phone service?

Three iphones, unlimited talk and text, 8GB for data...$235 a month.
Breakdown:
$90 for the unlimited talk and text, 8GB
$120 for the smartphone line access ($40 x 3)
$25 in taxes and fees
I definitely want to stay with iphones and would like to stick with Verizon and 8GB data plan...just want to know if there are other options to bring price down.
Seems like a ripoff but I haven't really shopped around...I just had a friend with AT&T say that he spends considerably less for more iphones and more GB.

Chicken, I'm paying just under $300 for 4.
If you keep phones for a while, you can bump up to 10gb, get the "Verizon Edge" which then takes $25 per line back off. Once the phone is "paid for" - you keep the $25 per line discount.
I'm considering doing that - however, if Nexus 6 actually comes out, I'm thinking about jumping to prepaid - I still can't believe I'm paying $300 a month for cell phones.

i am currently debating about swiching to the $160 a month unlimited talk and text and 10 gb to share plan from AT&T...i called them and that deal applies if you bring your own phone...they said all verizon phones can come over they just give you a new sim card...
i am paying even more for Verizon and only have two smartphones and two older phones for my kids...and they have no texting...seems like a no brainer...i am just worried about signal strength
you should be able to bring your iphones

ok...thanks...I guess my friend was referring to the $160 plan from ATT. ATT doesn't work well in my house, so cannot switch to them.

I think he told you wrong. Verizon is a CDMA network and doesn't use SIM cards. AT&T and T-Mobile are the only GSM networks that use SIM cards. The phones are not compatible.

I'm not doubting you or that they may have said or suggested something like this, Dawg, but I wouldn't trust this without verifying it.
I don't believe it's true, in other words, without calling you a liar.

i found it fishy as well but my phone does have a sim...and so does the wifes...the white card next to the SD...isnt that the sim?...mine is rooted and running Cyanogenmod so i can actually switch to the other network types...im still trying to figure it all out..i just know $245 a month for two smartphones and two non smartphones with no text plans is kinda killing me...seems like there is something better out there

Some if not all Verizon LTE phones will work on AT&T's 2G and 3G network.

Verizon phones have SIM cards - but that's not the issue - the radios aren't compatible. That's was the deal with the Nexus 5 - Google declined to include CDMA radios in the specs, so Nexus 5 won't work on Verizon - Nexus aren't locked to begin with.

Only if the phone itself has the radio - if you got it through Verizon, I can almost guarantee you it does not have GSM capability - "rooted" and other issues aren't germane to this discussion.

I feel you, brah - I'm about ready to go prepaid, it's so serious (and prepaid has its own set of issues).
If Nexus 6 comes out ready to go on Verizon, I might stay and try the edge - otherwise, I may be on an AT&T or T-Mobile prepaid by the end of the year. ~$300 a month for 4 phones seems excessive.

Verizon phones do have simcards but the networks are still different
Certain phones may work on both types of networks but most are either/or

Chicken, I pay about 190 for 2 iPhones with 10gb on Verizon
I will probably switch to the edge plan when my contract is up in December
It won't save me much money to start but you can upgrade sooner or get a big discount if the phones get paid off

What phones do you have? I would find a friend with AT&T and put their sim in your phone. It should work because the sim slot on Verizon phones is unlocked. Now you won't get LTE with AT&T and you may have to change your APN settings but you should be able to get HSPA+.
