DOJ reportedly asked Ferguson cops not to release robbery video

They predicted, correctly it seems, that the video would inflame racial tensions.
Brown's family sees the release of the video as an attempt at character assassination.
What say ye?

Police in Ferguson released a video tape allegedly showing slain teen Michael Brown robbing a store even though the Justice Department warned that doing so could inflame racial tensions, CNN is reporting.
Ferguson cops had wanted to release the video on Thursday but held off when federal officials asked them not to release the tape, an unnamed law enforcement official told CNN. That tape allegedly showed Brown stealing cigars from a convenience store before a police officer shot the unarmed 18-year-old in the street last weekend.
Despite holding off Thursday, Ferguson police still decided to release the tape Friday over the Justice Department's objections, according to CNN.

My thoughts are it seems more like character assassination now than if they had just released it asap. Doj fricking shite up, as usual.

How is it character assassination? I would see character assassination as showing something that could view out of context or viewed without having the entire story. That's not the case here, the video clearly shows a racists move by brown when he stole and physically intimidated a minority store owner.

How could it possibly be designated as character assassination? Was that not really Brown in the video? Actual character assassination only occurs when false information is used to besmirch a person's character.
The video constituted CHARACTER REVELATION.
As for the video inflaming racial tensions, I'm sure it did. The people who are protesting, looting, and rioting don't give a damn about the truth. They have an agenda to promote.

Because, of course, he was well within his rights in committing that robbery.

I thought they said that the dispatcher described the subjects of the robbery and he went back to get a better look of the boys before all of this went down.

This is false.
The initial contact was not with the cop having knowledge of the robbery.

I think had the video been released earlier, the reaction would be less violent and less emotionally- driven.

I would think the motive for that was when brown tried grabbing the cops gun.

Its OK if minorities break the law...Look at Black Panthers at the voting booths, Immigrants on the border....Where's the outrage of all the murders by minorities in Chicago just since Brown was shot....Why is the Justice Dept hiding how terrible these minorities are?

The FPD is under attack from blacks, the media, SJW's and seemingly half the population on the planet. But, God forbid they should release FACTUAL INFORMATION to give people some idea of what Wilson may have encountered that night?
Some of you people are fricking retarded.

Of course it is. It doesn't matter if he stole 10 golden unicorns, that doesn't give the police the right to carry out an execution in the streets.
It's no different than when a girl gets raped and people point out that she wore slutty clothes or liked to sleep around. That's irrelevant to what happened.

I think the feeling is that it now can possibly explain Brown getting aggressive with the cop in the first place, which is something that was immediately discarded when first broached (including by me, to be fair) because "Why would he?"
The videotape, even though the cop was unaware of the robbery, is material. Sunlight is the best disinfectant and all that jazz.
And bear in mind, it still doesn't necessarily excuse the cop's actions, based on what the forensic evidence may or may not show.

Agreed.
I don't know all of the facts of this case, but the looting and rioting is fricking ridiculous.
A young man is dead so they burn down stores and loot hair weave? Really? I don't see how anyone can defend the animals that are destroying their own community. They are not protesting. They are destroying private property. I would love to know what they think they're accomplishing.

Exactly. At first, the mob tried some lame "grainy video" defense. Now, they're grasping for straws.
Theyre too invested in this pity party, so any contradiction to the "sweet young boy" bullshite will be met with the same two bit argumentative tactics.
I love how the star witness is the other robber of the store. Excuse me. I meant "hero." The man is a hero.
