Thats the point in the supply vs demand thing. If rates rise to 2.5X, that entices more drivers out to the road, and brings the rates back down. I am not sure yet how fast that process works though (i.e. if you wait 30 minutes, do rates drop?), but we will probably know by the weekend

While a special event can cause surge pricing, it is not the only thing that could create a lack of supply.

I would be very interested in learning how the Surge concept will be applied.

I am a HUGE fan of Uber and readily agree that they can apply that policy or any other pricing scheme in any way they want but...

If they don't apply it evenly, for instance not lowering the surge pricing when demand dies down, then it will effect my continued use of the platform. As a consumer, I expect to be treated fairly or I will take my dollars elsewhere.
