Chris Farley was a big deal (I still miss him) and he was a great comedian. But, his influence was much more narrow and short-lived. With Williams, you are talking about 35 years of work and his dramatic performances too.
The equivalent would be if Billy Crystal or Jim Carrey died like this, I think, from an historic perspective. Robin Williams has not been that big since 2000 or so, but in the 80's and 90's, he was HUGE.
