I debated adding Von Trier to my top 5 so that this board would think I was patrician, but I couldn't rightly do so with what Linklater just did with Boyhood.

5. Richard Linklater
never heard of him so I looked him up...
Does he really have movies titled:
Before Sunrise
Before Sunset
Before Midnight
????
What's next in the series? Before lunch? Before my morning dump?

It's actually a pretty cool concept and story. I like Linklater's different views on film making with his "before" series and now Boyhood.

It is one of the most consistent trilogies ever made, and the time between the films release dates is the actual time frame of the trilogy.
Linklater also did Slacker, Dazed and Confused, Waking Life, A Scanner Darkly, and Bernie.

Linklater has gotten Jack Black nominated for two golden globes.
Before Trilogy is some of the better dialogue you'll hear in a movie. School of Rock. Bernie. Dazed and Confused. Boyhood.

I'm going 10, in alphabetic order:
Aronofsky
Carruth
Coen
Cuaron
Fincher
Nolan
Payne
Russell
Scorcese
Spielberg
Tarantino
Lynch has stopped making films, so I mentally made him ineligible. Carruth only has two movies, but they are both brilliant.

It confuses you that I never heard of a guy whose only film I have seen was Dazed and Confused?
