Lazaretto is the king of 2014 releases.

I tried... I really tried to like them. I definitely enjoyed the lead singer's spastic performance of Seasons, but the rest of the album kind of falls flat for me. Haim was kind of the same way. I think I'm just not a huge fan of the throwback synthpop thing.
Part of it could be because half the times I tried to listen to it was with my wife and she'd make it about two songs in before she started complaining about that awful music.

I don't know how it's possible to not like Haim. I'm being serious. That's pop music done right.
Solid live as well.

I LIKE haim. I just don't love them.

I don't quite get the love for this album. Perhaps I need to listen to it again.

now we are getting the votes. every spin gets even better.
On a side not, the new Black Keys is a decent not great album. However, the opening track Weight of Love is by far the best song I have heard this year. Aurbach's guitar work in it is incredible, and the overall construction of the song is perfect.

Ah-Greed
That track is where I wish the rest of the album would have went too. It's a disappointing album but that is one of the best songs they've ever put out

yes sir. I agree I wish the rest were like that, but I do like the album overall.
As for Lazareto, it's such a great album overall. While there are few tracks that are knock outs (Black Bat Licorice the clear exception to this rule.... that song ovary punches the competition), it's a great listen from start to finish. White has grasped a great theme with this one, and it works as a whole

I listened to it again, and I liked it more the second time around. It's definitely solid, but I still don't quite understand the height of the pedestal upon which it's been placed on this board and in this thread, but to each their own. Different strokes and all that.

John Butler's "Flesh & Bone" needs to be in the conversation as well. This is a fantastic album.

They played here recently at a tiny little club. I, unfortunately, was out of town.

I, too, put that Strand of Oaks album in my top 5. I loved Pope Killdragon, but HEAL is a whole other level of awesome.
I'll be seeing Hurraby for the Riff Raff in about two weeks, as they're playing at a local fest. Stoked.
